Belviq Weight Loss Lawsuit

Note: This content is provided for informational purposes only. Douglas & London is no longer accepting cases related to Belviq-related injuries or cancer diagnoses.

Belviq is a weight-loss drug produced by the pharmaceutical company Eisai Inc. This weight-loss drug works by activating receptors in the brain to promote the feeling of being full leading to decreased food consumption.

Early testing showed that test rats taking the drug developed tumors. Nonetheless, Belviq was officially approved by the FDA in 2012 and hit US markets in June 2013.

Belviq Recall

In January, 2020, the FDA made an announcement alerting Belviq users that results of a clinical trial showed that over a long-term period, patients taking the drug were diagnosed with cancer at a higher rate than those taking a placebo.

On February 13, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested that the manufacturer of the weight-loss drugs Belviq and Belviq XR remove their drugs from the market due to an increased risk of cancer.
