New York Injury attorney Virginia E. Anello was born and raised in Covington, Louisiana. She attended Louisiana State University on an honors scholarship. Ms. Anello graduated from LSU magna cum laude and received a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a minor in Italian. She went on to attend the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU where she received her Juris Doctor Degree and her Bachelor of Civil Law Degree, graduating in the top 30% of her class. Ms. Anello is admitted to practice law in the States of New York and Louisiana. She is also admitted to practice law in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals as well as the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C.
Since obtaining her law degree, Ms. Anello has devoted her entire career to always representing injury victims and consumers, primarily in mass tort and class actions. Her practice areas in the law have always focused on, and continue to focus on, products liability litigation and complex litigation, with an emphasis on consumer fraud and mass tort litigation. Consistent with the firm’s philosophy, she is dedicated to ensuring that an underdog can be heard.
Ms. Anello currently focuses her work on representing individuals injured as a result of defective metal-on-metal hip replacement systems (DePuy ASR, DePuy Pinnacle, Biomet Magnum, Wright Conserve and Zimmer Durom Cup), contaminated heparin, and the diabetic drug Actos.
In addition, Ms. Anello spearheads the firm’s class action litigation department, representing consumers who have been misled by product manufacturers and deceived into purchasing products that they otherwise would not have purchased but for the deception. Ms. Anello is particularly involved in all of the firm’s class action work, including the firm’s Combination Aspirin class action against Bayer in which it is alleged that Bayer falsely represented to consumers that its over-the-counter combination aspirin drugs, Bayer Women’s Low Dose Aspirin + Calcium and Bayer with Heart Advantage, delivered certain health benefits, which they in fact did not. Ms. Anello is also involved in the firm’s iPhone class action against Apple and AT&T and a consumer class action against General Mills.
Ms. Anello’s class action work does not stop with consumers. She also actively represents union health funds and other insurers that have been misled as a result of the deceptive acts and practices of pharmaceutical manufacturers. Ms. Anello is currently involved in a class action against pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer, relating to its deceptive conduct in delaying the approval of the generic version of its cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor for one-and-a-half years. As a result of Pfizer’s deception, union health funds and insurers paid inflated prices for Lipitor, in excess of millions of dollars, when they could have been paying for its generic equivalent.
Ms. Anello is also actively involved in representing individuals who were exposed to toxins as a result of their rescue and clean-up effort at the World Trade Center site following September 11, 2001. She originally represented these victims in the World Trade Center Disaster Site Litigation pending before the Honorable Judge Alvin Hellerstein of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and she oversaw the firm’s recent settlement of that matter. Since Congress recently enacted the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 which reopened the September 11, 2001 Victims’ Compensation Fund, Ms. Anello has been directing her efforts at ensuring that these injured individuals as well as those injured as a result of their working, living and going to school in the Lower Manhattan area are compensated under the Act.
In addition to the above work, Ms. Anello oversees the firm’s vaccine litigation department. She has handled numerous cases in the program, many of which have settled or been successfully adjudicated on the merits. In this endeavor she and her team at Douglas & London, P.C., represent children and adults who have been injured by vaccinations in the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.
"Since the inception of the firm, Douglas & London has taken the opportunity to give back to the community. It is a right, a privilege and a responsibility our firm takes very seriously. We fully understand that without community, there’s no Douglas & London."-- The Team at Douglas & London
