Settlement: Over $2 billion: Pharmaceutical Products Liability 

Our firm’s involvement and participation in the Yaz®/Yasmin® product liability litigation resulted in Bayer paying over $2 billion to the approximately 20,000 injured claimants.  Firm partner Michael A. London played a pivotal role throughout the litigation, holding the position of court-appointed co-lead counsel of the entire litigation. Firm partner Gary Douglas was designated a co-lead trial counsel for the first trial that was stayed just 11 days before it was set to begin after the announcement of settlement negotiations, and Stephanie O’Connor, another partner at the firm, was critical in establishing the science aspect of the case.  Together this advocacy helped shed light on this dangerous new birth control, which resulted the convention of an FDA Advisory Committee to address the drug’s hazards and the approval of a change to the label’s package warnings to better reflect the real dangers

Settlement: $690,000,000: Pharmaceutical Products Liability

Our firm’s involvement and participation in the Zyprexa® product liability litigation yielded a $690 million settlement on behalf of approximately 8,000 injured plaintiffs.  Michael A. London played a pivotal role, holding the position of Vice-Chair of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee responsible for starting this groundbreaking litigation that led to changes in warning labels for atypical anti-psychotic medications and the historic $690 million settlement in less than two years of litigation.

Settlement: $670,600,000: Environmental Toxic Exposure

Our firm’s involvement and participation in the C8 litigation against DuPont resulted in a $670.6 million settlement on behalf of approximately 3,550 plaintiffs.  Firm partner Gary J. Douglas tried three cases to verdict, with three separate juries returning verdicts in the amounts of $1.6 million, $5.6 million and $12.5 million.  Firm partner Michael A. London held the position of plaintiff’s co-lead counsel of the entire litigation and was the lead negotiator of the $670.6 million settlement.  Mr. Douglas, Mr. London, and Senior Associate Rebecca G. Newman were nominated as one of the eight national finalists for Trial Team of the Year by the National Trial Lawyers Association.

Settlement: $650,000,000: Pharmaceutical Products Liability

Settlement on behalf of approximately 4,400 claimants injured by use of the drug Pradaxa. Firm Partner Michael A. London served as co-lead counsel to oversee the entire litigation and was one of two primary negotiators of the settlement.  Firm Partner Gary J. Douglas was designated as lead trial counsel for the first Pradaxa bellwether trial, which was stayed following the announcement of the settlement.

Firm Partner Stephanie O’Connor served on the trial team that secured a $140 million verdict against AbbVie, Inc. on behalf of a man who was injured as a result of his use of testosterone replacement therapy. Ms. O’Connor, along with the entire trial team, was recognized as one of the eight finalists for Trial Team of the Year by the National Trial Lawyers Association.
