Michael F. Bastone is a graduate of the Fordham University School of Law where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Brendan Moore Trial Advocacy Center and Associate Editor of the Environmental Law Journal. Michael received his bachelor’s degree in Government and Sociology from Georgetown University. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York and the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Since graduating law school, Michael has focused his practice on complex products liability litigation, specializing in pharmaceutical cases. Michael gained experience representing pharmaceutical companies in class actions and multidistrict litigation, and has brought that insight and experience to Douglas & London to help those injured due to their exposure to and use of prescription drugs.
In addition to pharmaceutical matters, Michael has extensive experience in complex products liability cases, including aviation accidents and environmental exposure cases. He also has experience with medical malpractice cases, professional liability cases, and general liability cases.
Currently at the firm, he is actively involved in the firm’s Levaquin litigation against Johnson & Johnson where he represents hundred of clients who suffered severe tendon injuries as a result of this medication. He is also actively handling cases concerning birth injuries as result of children’s in utero exposure to the various Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (“SSRIs”) and Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (“SNRIs”). These medicines include Paxil, Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, Zoloft, Pristiq, Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, Luvox, and Effexor.
In addition, to these two cases, Michael is also involved in many medical and science issues concerning the birth control medications Yaz/Yasmin manufactured by Bayer Healthcare, and he is on the Multidistrict Litigation Science Committee (which is co-chaired by firm partner Gary J. Douglas).
Prior to becoming an attorney, Michael worked for the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York in the area of transportation policy as part of the NYC Urban Fellows program.
