DaVinci Surgical Robot

The Da Vinci Surgical System is a complex robot used in surgical fields such as cardiothoracic, gynecology, urology and general surgery. Manufactured by Intuitive Surgical since 2000, the robotic da Vinci Surgical System is a minimally invasive alternative surgical aid intended to shorten a patient’s time under anesthesia as well as recovery time.

Intuitive Surgical pays for a two-day training course for two physicians per facility, but leaves the remaining training on the da Vinci robot up to each hospital. Additionally, training on the da Vinci device is not consistent, nor is it mandated by the manufacturer. Sadly, due to such inadequate physician training, numerous serious and devastating complications have occurred in patients who have been operated on with the unregulated da Vinci device. These include:

  • Burns
  • Ruptures of organs
  • Emergency surgery to correct issues that arise during Da Vinci surgery
  • Fistulas or abnormal connections created between organs or vessels
  • Hematomas or internal bleeding
  • Post-surgery sepsis or infections
  • Tears

Lawsuits are pending around complications that may have been avoided had Intuitive Surgical provided accurate and complete information and adequately trained all physicians using the device.

If you or someone you know has experienced any of these serious complications following a procedure involving a da Vinci Surgical System robot, you may have a legal case. Please contact our defective medical device attorneys today to discuss your rights.
